P: Problem
A: Advice

1. P: Missing textures.
A: Use betatesters to check it on your map.
2. P: Missing levelshot.
A: Dont be a fool and do some nice screenshots.Then choose the best of them and type the name of your map on it.
3. P: Levelshot was made with :
a) cg_draw2d 1
b) r_picmip > 1
c) lightmap off
d) r_fastsky 1
e) r_gamma < 1
f) cg_drawgun 1 etc.
A: Just consider this. Levelshot must be cool.
4. P: Bad texturing (bad style).
A: Better use new textures. You can find a lot of textures on planetquake.com, here's an example :
http://www.planetquake.com/hfx/textures.html
But anyway you can try with standart quake 3 texs.
Take a look at MasterMatt's maps if you want to make a map with default textures.
5. P: Bad lighting, dark places etc.
A: Be careful with lights, normal light values are : 200 (small rooms)..2000 (big rooms), it is important.
Also :
a) use "ambient" light carefully (5..30 is enough)
b) dont use colored lights too frequently.
6. P: Map looks good only with lightmap on.
A: Dont use lightmap textures all over your map.
7. P: Small map - Big filesize.
A: Think about it while making your map, dont use any excessive stuff like ... :
a) textures with big filesize - ~0.5 Mb and bigger...
b) huge levelshot filesize : use medium resolution (640x480,800x600), save in normal jpeg quality when editing, filesize should be about 100 kb.
c) be careful with new models, some of them using a bunch of textures.
8. P: Missing *.shader file for new textures.
A: Its very important for some textures. Use betatesters.
9. P: Missing readme file with copyrights etc.
A: Its necessary in my opinion, otherwise anybody can use your map as a base without any credits and you cant even say "hey dirty bastart, dont steal my ideas !", by the way other information about your map is important for some other mapmakers.
10. P: Timer reset ability is a huge mistake on some of the maps.
A: Betatesting onwz.
11. P: Levelshot was made with \levelshot console command.
A: Forget this command.
12. P: Many killing places (target_kill or trigger_hurt).
A: Any newbie dislike it. Think about it if you're not making a map for l33t skillz.
13. P: On accuracy maps all targets must be important.
A: The more skill is needed the better. Result must depend on each of the targets.
14. P: Very short distance between target_init and the next weapon to pick up.
A: Some weapon changing problems occurs. Just test it better.
a) cg_autoswitch 0
b) cg_autoswitch 1
15. P: Many god-damn places to walk on.
A: Walking aint a faster way to finish the map, running ownz. Think about it.
16. P: Every side of the brush has the same texture on it.
A: In editor's 3d-view window use ctrl+shift and left-click on the side you need.
a) use common/caulk texture on any hidden brush sides. (reduces compile time and increases FPS)
b) use shift and arrow-keys while brush side is selected to move the texture if necessary.
17. P: Low FPS on a map. Its a problem for some players.
A: Use "make structural" for the brushes and especially for the environment box to avoid the leaks.
"Make detail" doesn't block the vision so "make structural" increases fps.
